University of Maryland News
To the University Community:
I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ann G. Wylie as Vice President for Administrative
Affairs effective March 30, 2009. Dr. Wylie has served as Interim Vice President for Administrative Affairs since Mr. Douglas Duncan resigned in November 2008.
Dr. Wylie is a highly regarded member of the Faculty who has provided exemplary senior administrative leadership in a number of capacitiesAssistant President and Chief of Staff (2002-2008), Interim Dean of the Graduate School (2004-2006), Associate Provost (2000-2002), and Acting Associate Dean of the College of Computer, Mathematical and Physical Sciences (1998-2000).
As Interim Vice President for Administrative Affairs, she was responsible for eight departments, including university human resources, comptroller, public safety, facilities management, environmental safety, real estate, business services and procurement and supply. Her keen understanding and leadership of the key development initiatives of Administrative Affairs have maintained the division's high standard of quality.
The development of our research park, M-Square, the redevelopment of the Route 1 corridor, the transformational East Campus project, and the alignment, design and operation of the proposed Purple Line, are all under the Vice President for Administrative Affairs. They are critical elements of our continued march toward building a great university in service to the State and region. Ann Wylie has provided campus oversight on these development projects from their inceptions.
Ann's passion for the University of Maryland is widely recognized across the campus, in the community, throughout the University System of Maryland, and across the State. Her deep understanding of the many, complex, interconnected issues facing the universityadministrative, academic, facilities and strategicwill continue to be invaluable assets for informed leadership during this challenging period in our economy and development.
We are indeed fortunate to have a person of Ann Wylie's proven capabilities in the leadership team of the university. The University of Maryland is the most important engine of knowledge and prosperity in the State of Maryland, the State's key asset in the determination of its future. The achievement and the international repute of our academic programs, faculty, students, teaching, research and service are at all-time highs, thanks to the work of many and the leadership of its units.
I wish to thank the excellent and remarkably dedicated work of the search committee, led by Dr. Linda Clement, for taking on this key search responsibility. Its work was thorough, complete and appreciated greatly by the campus.
Yours sincerely,
C. D. Mote, Jr.
President
