Quilts of Hope
"Quilts of Hope" is a quilt project that features handwritten messages of hope to children.
Four hundred 12"x12" muslin squares and permanent markers will be available for students to write messages of hope to children who have suffered in natural disasters will be available all week at donation stations and at the Open Chapel Remembrance on Feb 10th.
Several student groups have already "checked-out" quilt squares to complete at meetings and will return them by Feb 9th. The quilt squares will be on display in the Chapel the night of the Benefit Concert.
9:30 a.m.: Tsunami Faculty Forum
The Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Maryland will host a Tsunami Science & Tech Forum from 9:30 to 11:00 am on Thursday, February 10 as part of a campus-wide Tsunami Relief Day at the College Park Campus. The forum will be held at the Memorial Chapel (Bldg. 009) main chapel (Rm. 1100) area on Regents and Chapel Drive.
Noon: Catholic Mass
Father Bill Byrne will say a special mass for tsunami victims, their families/communities and for the relief efforts.
1:00-5:00 p.m.: Caring for the Children: Tsunami Remembrance
Donation stations and quilts squares available. A PowerPoint presentation of the tsunami stricken areas and Champions Week student volunteers in action, will play throughout the afternoon in the Main Chapel during the time of reflection.
7:00-10:00 p.m.: Caring for the Children: Tsunami Benefit Concert
Suggested donation $3.00. A very diverse group of 10 student acts will perform, including Faux Paz, Pandemonium, Anokha, Mockapella and Treble Makers, Balinese instruments, African drums, and a student band Sometime After Seven, who wrote a song dedicated to the tsunami victims. There will also be a Sri Lankan student speaker that will talk about how his country has been impacted by the tsunami along with a recently returned relief worker who will speak about the work being done in South Asia.
Tsunami Relief efforts will run from Feb 4th-11th all across campus during Champions Week.

UNICEF is the relief agency selected to receive all donations collected from Feb 4th -11th.
Donation stations are located at the Visitor Center Welcome Desk, Stamp Student Union Information Desk, Booths at the Food Court, and the Chapel Office. YOu will also find a table at Stampfest (formerly known as Second Look Fair)
