In accordance with the Department of Homeland Security Guidelines and as a method of increasing the effectiveness of the University of Maryland's response to campus threats, the University of Maryland Department of Public Safety, on the College Park Campus, will be conducting a training exercise on Thursday, February 17, 2005.
This training exercise will take place on the College Park campus and involve the University of Maryland Department of Public Safety and the Maryland State Police. This exercise is NOT precipitated by an actual threat. It is a training exercise designed to enhance the coordinated law enforcement response necessary in the event of an actual campus emergency.
The community should expect to see more uniformed officers on campus, especially at the main entrances. While a significant disruption to the community is not anticipated, officers' presence at entrances to campus may lengthen incoming commutes. Allowing additional time to travel into and around campus is strongly encouraged.
The community is requested to go about daily activities as usual. Please contact the Public Information Officer, Major Cathy Atwell, with any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your cooperation in this exercise.
