University of Maryland News
To the University Community:
We are writing to remind you about the Town Hall meeting that will be
hosted by the President's Office and the University Senate to discuss
the University's budget situation. The Town Hall meeting will be held
on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., in the Hoff
Theater of the Stamp Student Union. Doors will open at 11:15 a.m. The
meeting also can be viewed on a large screen television in the Atrium on
the first floor of the Student Union.
President Mote will provide a brief introduction about the budget and
then will welcome questions, suggestions and comments. You may wish to
take a look at the updated budget web site before the meeting at
www.budgetcentral.umd.edu. There you will find a budget primer as well
as responses to some of the suggestions that the community has made for
managing the current budget situation. We hope to use the meeting time
to address concerns that have not been addressed on the web site.
In planning the Town Hall meeting, we designed a format that will allow
for maximum participation of the community. Those who wish to ask a
question or make a comment will be asked to line up after President
Mote's introductory remarks. In the interest of time we ask that you
write out your question or comment beforehand, keeping it to one
minute. Two microphones will be set up and we will alternate questions
between the two. We ask for some flexibility in the order in which the
questions are asked to ensure that we can hear from all groups in the
University -- students, faculty and staff. If we run out of time and
your question is not answered, please feel free to email any questions
or comments to president@umd.edu and we will make certain that the
appropriate person responds to those concerns.
For those of you who are not able to attend the Town Hall meeting in
person, you may watch a live web cast by logging on to:
http://streaming.umd.edu:8080/ramgen/broadcast/townhall.rm. (You can download the free RealPlayer for the PC here and for the Mac here.)
The web cast will be available on the budget web site for viewing later.
We look forward to hearing from you at the Town Hall meeting.
Sincerely,
Sally Koblinsky
Assistant President and Chief of Staff
Elise Miller-Hooks
Chair, University Senate
