Spring Break 2004 Planned Upgrades and Outages

The Office of Information Technology announces a series of service interruptions for several of our production servers and their associated applications for the period of March 19-20, 2004.

At 8 p.m. March 19, hardware alterations will be made to the campus News Server (the source of newsgroups) to enhance system performance and expand capacity. It is expected the News application will be returned to service by 8 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004.

At 4 a.m. March 20, the Storage Area Network will be taken offline for an upgrade. An upgrade to the CorporateTime (calendar application) server will also be conducted during this time.

The following applications and services will experience interruptions during this downtime: WAM, Glue/DEANS, the enterprise e-mail system (Mail@umd), CorporateTime, Digital Imaging, and Webhosting (see www.webhosting.umd.edu/hosted_sites.cfm for the complete list of affected Web sites). All applications are expected to return to service by 8 a.m. March 20, 2004.

The maintenance outage was scheduled for this time frame when demand for services is low. While this outage is certainly an inconvenience to our customers, it is necessary to improve the reliability of our services to the university community. We thank you for your continued support and patience.

Questions should be directed to the OIT Help Desk (CSS West Wing room 1400) or by phone to 301.405.1500.
