In accordance with Homeland Security Guidelines and as a method of increasing the effectiveness of the University of Maryland’s response to campus threats, the University of Maryland Department of Public Safety, on the College Park Campus, will conduct a training exercise on the morning of Thursday, June 8, 2006. This training exercise will also involve several offices on the campus, as well as the Maryland State Police, Prince George’s County Police and the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department. This exercise is not precipitated by an actual threat. It is a training exercise designed to enhance the coordinated law enforcement and Fire/Rescue response necessary to respond in the event of an actual campus emergency.

The community should expect to see more uniformed policed officers and Fire/EMS personnel on campus, especially in the area of the Comcast Center. We do not anticipate a significant disruption to the community.

We are asking the community to go about their daily activities as usual. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the University's Public Safety Public Information Officer, Major Cathy Atwell. Thank you for your cooperation in this exercise.
