In Case of Weather Emergency

University officials continue to watch Hurricane Isabel as it continues on a path toward the East Coast of the United States. Current forecasts suggest that this storm could come close to our area sometime late Thursday. We take this storm very seriously and will monitor the situation continuously.

As the storm gets closer and its path more clear, we will update this Web site. Look for scheduled updates at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and Thursday at 6 a.m., noon and 6 p.m. More frequent updates may be posted if the situation warrants.

Students residing on campus also should watch the Web sites for Resident Life and Dining Services for information about safety procedures and services.

The university policy on severe weather states that we will try to conduct business as usual whenever possible. Decisions about canceling activities, including classes, will be made based on an assessment of conditions as they affect safety and safe travel on campus and throughout the area. University officials will consult with federal, state and local officials to assist with these assessments.

Whether the university remains open or not, the university's status will be posted in a timely way on the university Home Page (www.umd.edu), and on the weather emergency hot line at 301.405.SNOW (7669). The Office of University Communications will also notify Baltimore and Washington radio and television stations, but we cannot guarantee that the news media will accurately or fully report the universityıs status. We therefore urge all members of the university community to monitor the Home Page and/or the weather hot line for up-to-date information.
