Energy Conservation—Reduce Electric Demand
The regional electric grid operator, PJM, has called an emergency event
and is asking everyone to reduce electric demand for the next 6-8
hours. The University has committed to respond to these events, and
asks that all non-critical electric loads be turned off until you are
notified that the event has ended.
If PJM does not see a sufficient load drop across the system, it may
be forced to require the local utilities to initiate rolling brown or
black outs. Because the University relies on PEPCO to meet its summer
electric needs, we would be directly affected by these outages. Any
equipment that could be damaged by a loss of power should be secured at
this time in anticipation of an outage.
