Chelsea Clinton, Obama to Make Campaign Stops at UM

Two Democratic presidential campaign stops are now scheduled at the University of Maryland, ahead of Tuesday's primary elections in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia: one by Chelsea Clinton on Sunday, Feb. 10 and another by Barack Obama on Monday. Both visits were arranged by student organizations.

Republican Mike Huckabee made a similar campaign stop on Saturday.

Congestion on major highways surrounding the University will increase, and the normal traffic and parking demands encountered by the University community will be significantly more intense as supporters of both candidates—and media—arrive on campus. Visitors are encouraged to take Metro. No backpacks, large bags, or laptop computers should be brought to either event.

Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign arranged late Saturday to have her daughter, Chelsea, appear for a question-and-answer session at the University of Maryland's Stamp Student Union from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10. The event is open to the public. The UM College Democrats, a student organization, extended the invitation.
Senator Barack Obama, hosted by Students for Obama and the College Democrats, will speak at Comcast Center at 12:30 PM on Monday, February 11, 2008. Doors will open at 10:30 AM. The event is free and open to the public. No advance tickets will be distributed.

The public will enter from Comcast Center at Gate A (South Plaza Gate): Southeast corner atop the grand staircase (Main Public Entrance). In order to speed up entry into the Comcast Center, those attending are being asked not to bring backpacks, large bags, or laptop computers.

Beginning Monday at 7:00 AM, Lot 6 and 9 parking permit holders will be redirected to the following locations: Stadium Drive Garage, Union Lane Garage, Lot 1, and Mowatt Lane Garage.

Shuttle buses from the College Park Metro Station will run to and from the Comcast Center every 5 minutes beginning at 8:00 AM. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to walk to Comcast. Very limited parking will be available for visitors in Lots 6, 9B, 9C, and 11C.
