Campus Security Resources
The University of Maryland takes steps that contribute toward maintaining a safer and more secure environment. A truly safe campus
is achieved through the cooperation of all its community members. Here are some resources to increase your well being
on campus:
N.I.T.E. RIDE
N.I.T.E. ride is a curb-to-curb, on demand evening service. The service is available 7 days a week, from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.,
when the University is open. Please call 4-NITE (301.314.6483) is to request this service.
Security Escorts
University Police will provide escorts for anyone who feels unsafe when crossing campus. Whenever you would like an escort, please call
the police at 5.3555 (301.405.3555 from a cell phone). You may also use a blue light PERT phone to call for an escort.
Evening Service Routes
Department of Transportation Services' Shuttle UM provides free transportation around campus seven days a week from 5:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.
Shuttle UM maps showing fixed bus route can be found at the Department of Transportation Services web site, and are also available at the Stamp Student Union Information Desk.
Department of Public Safety/University Police
University Police can be reached 24 hours a day at 301.405.3555 or by dialing 911 from a campus phone. Call them immediately
if you observe any criminal or suspicious activity. The police and police aides also conduct patrols with marked
and unmarked cars, motorcycles, and bicycles as well as on foot.
Video Camera System
To enhance proactive police patrols on campus, security video cameras have been installed in various high-traffic
exterior and interior public areas on campus. The cameras record 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and are monitored
by the Department of Public Safety.
Emergency Telephones
Blue light PERT phones are located throughout campus. Activating the phones places you in direct contact with the University Police.
