Professor Preston is an emeritus professor in the Robert H. Smith School of Business and the faculty ombuds officer for the College Park Campus.

He is the author or editor of more than 150 academic publications—articles, books and monographs—in the fields of economics, marketing, management, international business and public policy.

Prior to joining the University of Maryland faculty in 1980, he was a faculty member of the University of California at Berkeley and the State University of New York at Buffalo.
