. Researchers at UMD are recruiting participants for a study on romantic relationships.

. Participants will complete a 1-hour lab session with your romantic partner (boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, or partner) and then complete brief questionnaires each evening at home for 2 weeks.

. Earn up to $35 per person ($70 per couple)

. Must be fluent in English and over 18 years of age. Your romantic partner may be of the same or opposite sex.

2. UHR Workshop - Responding to Personal Issues Employees Bring to Work

This FREE workshop is intended for supervisors and colleagues who work with staff with personal struggles that they bring to work. This includes substance abuse, domestic violence, financial issues, medical concerns and other issues that makes it hard for someone to focus on the job at hand. How do I talk to the person? When do I focus on performance vs. the issue they are presenting? How do I not confuse my role as supervisor with counselor? Tom Ruggieri, LCSW-C, shares his ideas on how to successfully address these issues from his experience running the Faculty/Staff Assistance Program.

The goals of the training are to reduce musculoskeletal disorders, increase worker productivity and performance, decrease worker discomfort and improve the overall quality of the work environment.

Recent research in neuroscience has dramatically increased our understanding of the human brain and how it impacts our work and lives. Knowing the "default" settings of the brain allows you to harness its power to promote better communication, understanding, problem-solving, and empathy.

. The social brain theory of human interaction
. Neuroscience concepts as they relate to communication and(conflict resolution
. Reset techniques and strategies for controlling responses to emotional reactions

8. 2014 T32 Neuroscience & Addictions Conference August 8th--register and attend for free lunch!

The UMD NIH/NIDA-Funded T32 Pre-doctoral Training Program at the
Intersection of Neuroscience and Addictions Treatment Development (see the
bottom of this email for details) is hosting its annual, FREE Summer
Conference Friday, August 8th, 9:00am-3:00pm. Presentations will focus on
current directions in research in Neuroscience, with an emphasis on basic
science findings and their application to addiction.

Invited speakers from UMD include Alexander Shackman, PhD (Department of
Psychology), Jens Herberholz, PhD (Department of Psychology), and Ed Bernat,
PhD (Department of Psychology). Our distinguished external speakers include
Emma Rose, PhD (University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of
Psychiatry) and Hedy Kober, PhD (Yale School of Medicine, Department of
Psychiatry).

The public, and all students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend.

The first 50 undergraduates to register by 5:00 PM, August 4th will receive
free lunch!

9. Building Thermography Practitioners Needed for Interview Study

Do you perform energy audits of buildings? Do you use a thermal camera for your inspections? We need your help!

We are exploring current methods and practices for performing energy audits of buildings and, specifically, the role of thermography in these audits. We are looking for experienced building thermographers, facilities managers, and building inspectors to participate in a short interview about their experiences as energy auditors.

Interview participants will be reimbursed $20 for their time. Interview sessions can be conducted in-person at a specific location of your choice in the DC metro area or via Skype, Google Hangout, or another video chatting service.
