On Friday, August 28th from 8:30am-3pm the TLTC and the Graduate School will host the annual campus-wide Graduate Student Teacher Orientation in 1101 Bioscience Research Building (morning sessions) and Plant Sciences Building (afternoon sessions). The orientation is for both new and returning TAs and graduate student instructors who will be teaching in 2015-2016. We will provide plenary sessions on effective teaching, Q+A sessions, and a series of interactive workshops on a wide variety of teaching topics. We encourage all GTAs to attend as part of their preparation for the semester. FREE EVENT includes breakfast and lunch. Please RSVP.

5. Parenting research study seeking parents of 5-10 year old girls with ADHD

Are you the biological mother of a 5-10 year-old girl that has Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)? If so, you may be eligible to participate in a study being conducted by the University of Maryland ADHD Program. The purpose of this research project is to better understand how mothers of children with ADHD plan and parent. Participation includes:
.1 visit to the University of Maryland
.$25 compensation for research participation
.A chance to attend a 2-hour Helpful Parenting Tips workshop

6. "Our Sputnik Moment": Award Lecture by Physics Science Communicator

Ainissa Ramirez, a self-described "science evangelist," is the winner of the 2015 Andrew Gemant Award, an annual prize recognizing significant contributions to the cultural, artistic or humanistic dimension of physics. Ramirez will be presented with the award on July 28 at the American Association of Physics Teachers' 2015 Summer Meeting in College Park, Maryland, where she will also deliver a public lecture, which is free to attend

7. FROM THE FRONT LINES - A PERSONAL REFLECTION ON BEING A DOCTOR IN SOWETO

Dr. Gloria Teckie will give a personal account of her experience as a physician in Soweto, South Africa.

About the speaker: Gloria Teckie is a specialist physician working in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has fellowships in Nephrology and Internal Medicine and an interest in Critical Care, and is affiliated with the University of the Witwatersrand. She currently practices medicine at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital that serves approximately six million people from Soweto and southern Johannesburg.

**A light lunch will be provided after the presentation.**
