2. TLTC workshop series: Orienting Your Students to an Online Course Environment

When: Wednesday, September 24, 2014 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
Where: Marie Mount : Maryland Room (0100)
Event Type(s): Seminar

As more courses transition toward a flipped, blended or fully online format, students may find it difficult to find critical information in these online course environments. Helping your students navigate these courses while also learning how to efficiently use these online environments is at the heart of this Teaching and Learning Transformation Center (TLTC) workshop. TLTC instructional designer Deb Mateik will introduce strategies such as narrated tours, scavenger hunts, syllabus quizzes, and ice breakers to acquaint students with the online course space, as well as with the instructor and other students. Lunch provided, please RSVP at http://goo.gl/WcK0T6

3. TLTC Teaching Tip of the Week: Integrating Experiential Learning into your Classroom

Event Type(s): Other

The intentional combination of experience and learning that each enhances the other is called experiential learning. This very hands-on pedagogy facilitates the developing of skills as well as knowledge while encouraging a deep understanding of complex concepts. Simply put, experiential learning is applying theory to practice as it enables students to be critically reflective in professional activities. Experiential learning normally happens outside the classroom through such experiences as internships, study abroad, and service-learning. However, this workshop video http://goo.gl/m2agiE introduces ways to integrate experiential learning into typical class structures.
