Beyond the Classroom offers undergraduate students the opportunity to explore civic opportunities in the non-profit sectors in the DC area. During the first semester, students participate in an interdisciplinary seminar on civic engagement and social change in a global context that prepares students for public service on civic issues that matter most to them. During the next semester, students will serve an internship with a nonprofit or nongovernmental organization working on important civic issues (e.g., civil liberties, democracy, environment, human rights) at the local, national, or global levels, while participating in a seminar that supports their experience.
