"From molecules to nanocrystals: A tale of two phase transitions"

Dr. Barbara Wyslouzil is a professor at The Ohio State University and President of the American Association of Aerosol Research. Her talk will summarize her recent work characterizing two very different phase transitions - condensation from the vapor phase and the freezing of highly super-cooled droplets. Both studies use a range of techniques including small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS), infrared spectroscopy, and pressure measurements. The combined experiments yield insight into the properties of the initial fragments of the new phase, droplet structure, particle coagulation and breakup, and the kinetics of freezing.
