On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the University of Maryland will launch a new university calendar that will streamline and replace the FYI and Free Stuff @ UMD calendars. Beginning Sept. 8, you will be able to submit your events to the new campus calendar for review and approval, much like the current process for FYI and Free Stuff @ UMD. On Sept. 8, if you visit this website, you will automatically be redirected to the new calendar. In addition, a new weekly email called UMD This Week will launch on Sept. 8, replacing the daily FYI email. UMD This Week will be delivered at the beginning of every week and will highlight top upcoming events. UMSO performs Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6, which premiered nine days before the composer's death and was his last completed symphony.
Appropriately called "Pathetique," Symphony No. 6 is tense and brooding, and addresses the power of fate in life and death.
Also on the program: Emily Robinson, the second-prize winner of the 2012 UMSO Concerto Competition, joins the orchestra to perform Copland's Concerto for Clarinet.
