Challenges within India's K-12 Education System: Critical Perspectives by Distinguished Teachers from Diverse Contexts

India today faces many challenges in educating its children. Drawing upon our extensive experiences as teachers and educators in India, we provide an overview of the country's K-12 system, and share our insights on a range of current trends and issues. We identify special needs and counseling as emerging critical educational components, struggling for their rightful place. We also look at the importance of educational reforms currently being introduced, including innovative curriculum changes to provide the students with 21st century skills. Finally, we discuss the many dichotomies inherent in the educational structure, and propose that resolving these dichotomies is our biggest challenge yet.
Time will be provided for Q&A. Light refreshments will be served.
