Sustainability Tip of the Week: Power vampires are a killer

Event Type(s): Other

"Vampire" power, also known as standby power, is the energy that electronics and appliances continue to consume 24 hours a day even when turned off. Be a vampire slayer and look for these clues: does it have a remote control (TV), an external power supply (cell phone), a digital display (laptop) or a soft-touch key-pad (microwave)? If so, you have found a vampire! They can be prevented by unplugging your appliances and electronics from the wall. Alternatively, you can plug them into a power strip -- just be sure to turn off the strip each night.
