On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the University of Maryland will launch a new university calendar that will streamline and replace the FYI and Free Stuff @ UMD calendars. Beginning Sept. 8, you will be able to submit your events to the new campus calendar for review and approval, much like the current process for FYI and Free Stuff @ UMD. On Sept. 8, if you visit this website, you will automatically be redirected to the new calendar. In addition, a new weekly email called UMD This Week will launch on Sept. 8, replacing the daily FYI email. UMD This Week will be delivered at the beginning of every week and will highlight top upcoming events. FREE National Symposium, Civil War to Civil Rights: The Well-Being of a Nation, 9/5-9/6
The Clarice Smith Center, in partnership with UMD's School of Public Policy and School of Public Health, is hosting a 2-day national symposium to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation.
The symposium features activists Julian Bond and Marian Wright Edelman as well as cultural critic, Touré. Activists, artists, students, faith leaders and scholars will also share stories about the work being done locally and nationally through today's civil rights movements.
