On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the University of Maryland will launch a new university calendar that will streamline and replace the FYI and Free Stuff @ UMD calendars. Beginning Sept. 8, you will be able to submit your events to the new campus calendar for review and approval, much like the current process for FYI and Free Stuff @ UMD. On Sept. 8, if you visit this website, you will automatically be redirected to the new calendar. In addition, a new weekly email called UMD This Week will launch on Sept. 8, replacing the daily FYI email. UMD This Week will be delivered at the beginning of every week and will highlight top upcoming events. It has been 67 years since India got its independence. This 15th of August, India will celebrate the 67th Independence Day. It is a day when we have to remind us of the hardships taken by our brave freedom fighters and also celebrate our unity in cultural diversity.
DESI has been celebrating India's Independence Day at the University of Maryland College Park for the past 10 years. This year too, keeping our tradition, we have organized an Independence Day event to celebrate our rich and diverse culture. The following is a brief schedule of the program:

5.30pm @ Nyumburu Amphitheater: Flag Hoisting followed by a Memorial silence for 7 Indian soldiers brutally killed in the recent attacks in Kashmir by Pakistan army.
6.00pm onwards @ Nyumburu Cultural Center: Colorful Indian Cultural program
Delicious Indian snacks will be served after the event!
