With a grant from the UMD Sustainability Fund, graduate student Scott Tjaden is installing our first campus green wall on the South side of the ENST/Animal Science building. The purpose of a green façade is to add a layer of vine-based vegetation on an installed structure that helps to shield a building from solar heat gain resulting in less cooling of the interior space during the summer season, when the plants are in their peak. The greenery will also add to the urban setting, while helping to reduce noise and air pollution surrounding the building. Scott himself will lead the tour.
