Over the past six years, energy use by data centers and their supporting infrastructure is estimated to have nearly doubled. It is estimated that as much as 30-50% of many current data center facility energy costs are towards the cooling infrastructure, which makes energy efficient thermal management of these facilities an urgent priority. In this presentation, Dr Joshi will provide an introduction to thermal management and modeling in data centers. The capabilities of a dedicated 1,200 sq. ft., high heat density Data Center Laboratory will be summarized and some recent measurements presented.
