The Poetry of Joseph Schwantner

University of Maryland Wind Orchestra (UMWO), under the direction of Dr. Michael Votta, will honor Joseph Schwantner and celebrate his 70th birthday with the world premiere of the composer's Trilogy at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.

Trilogy is comprised of three works that were conceived independently through three commissions over 29 years. Yet, Schwantner visualized each piece as part of a whole. He says, "While each work is self-contained, I always envisioned the possibility that they could be combined to form a larger and more expansive three-movement formal design." UMWO's premiere will be the first time that Schwantner's vision comes to fruition.
