On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the University of Maryland will launch a new university calendar that will streamline and replace the FYI and Free Stuff @ UMD calendars. Beginning Sept. 8, you will be able to submit your events to the new campus calendar for review and approval, much like the current process for FYI and Free Stuff @ UMD. On Sept. 8, if you visit this website, you will automatically be redirected to the new calendar. In addition, a new weekly email called UMD This Week will launch on Sept. 8, replacing the daily FYI email. UMD This Week will be delivered at the beginning of every week and will highlight top upcoming events. Funded by a grant from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, The Nyumburu Cultural Center in conjunction with the Office of Diversity Education and Compliance, will host a live diversity musical performance by flautist Dr. Sais Kamalidiin and Pianist Mr. Sam Praether. The name of the group is Global Chamber Jazz Impromp2. The music is the creative improvisatory expression of American musicians influenced, interpreted and intermingled with the musics of West Africa, India, Japan, Brazil, the Caribbean, the Middle East and literally the whole world. Musical compositions of the following artists will be performed: Yusef Laeef, Horace Silver, Randy Weston, and Duke Ellington.
