The Refrigerator Replacement Program will reduce energy consumption at the University of Maryland by offering departments up to $400 to replace or decommission an old refrigerator. A new energy efficient refrigerator can save about $100 and 1000 kilowatt-hours per year compared to a 20-year-old unit. Rebates are available for a limited time.
Departments must apply by April 22nd, 2013. Rebates/awards will be granted based on the age of the old refrigerator and the order in which the application was received. The program has enough funds to replace 50 and decommission 20 units.
