On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the University of Maryland will launch a new university calendar that will streamline and replace the FYI and Free Stuff @ UMD calendars. Beginning Sept. 8, you will be able to submit your events to the new campus calendar for review and approval, much like the current process for FYI and Free Stuff @ UMD. On Sept. 8, if you visit this website, you will automatically be redirected to the new calendar. In addition, a new weekly email called UMD This Week will launch on Sept. 8, replacing the daily FYI email. UMD This Week will be delivered at the beginning of every week and will highlight top upcoming events. Engineering Modern Medical Devices -- The Road from Novel Idea to Commercial Product

Medical devices save lives, promote health, relieve pain and define a billion dollar industry in the US. Dr. Lawson will introduce the science and technology behind the development of devices such as those used in treatment for migraines and breast cancer surgery. He will challenge the audience to play the role of venture capitalists in consideration of the ethical, economic, social, and legal issues that impact successful product development.
