The African American Studies Department presents a brown bag talk by Ira Berlin where he will discuss his recent book: The Making of African America: the Four Great Migrations.
In the years since 1965, when Congress passed and President Johnson signed the Immigration and Nationality Act, the US has again become an immigrant society. The consequences of that change are a central to contemporary American life and politics. Less well known is that black America has also AGAIN become an immigrant society. The Making of African America: The Four Great Migrations explores the "Again"- migration as central theme of the African American experience.
