On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the University of Maryland will launch a new university calendar that will streamline and replace the FYI and Free Stuff @ UMD calendars. Beginning Sept. 8, you will be able to submit your events to the new campus calendar for review and approval, much like the current process for FYI and Free Stuff @ UMD. On Sept. 8, if you visit this website, you will automatically be redirected to the new calendar. In addition, a new weekly email called UMD This Week will launch on Sept. 8, replacing the daily FYI email. UMD This Week will be delivered at the beginning of every week and will highlight top upcoming events. Most cell biologists know of Vivek Malhotra and Jim Rothman's seminal discovery of coated vesicles that was published in Cell,1989 (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2752426).

Friday Nov 16, Vivek Malhotra, from the Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona, Spain, will speak at 12:00 noon in Rm. 1103 Biosciences Research Building. Talk title is "Mechanism of cargo sorting during conventional and unconventional protein secretion".

Dr. Malhotra served on the Editorial boards of Cell, Molecular Biology of the Cell, Journal of Cell Biology, Curr. Opin. Cell Biology, and eLIFE. He is a member of EMBO and the recipient of the 2013 ASBMB Merck award. http://www.crg.es/vivek_malhotra .
