When: Tuesday, June 05, 2012 5:00 PM - 10:30 PM
Where: roof : Stadium Dr. Garage
Event Type(s): Special Event
As Venus orbits the sun, it occasionally crosses the disk of the sun from our point of view. But it doesn't happen often. It last happened in 2004 and the next one will be in 2117!
The UMD Observatory and Astronomy Department will be hosting a special observing program to allow folks to safely observe the transit (one should never look at the sun without proper filters!!). The transit begins at 6pm but we will start observing the sun at 5pm. We will observe until the sun sets at about 8:30pm. As it gets dark, we will stay and observe some bright night time objects.
PLEASE visit our page for details about the program!!
