Dr. Robert Waters, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs
  and Assistant to the President for Equity and Diversity



Dr. Waters has served as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Special Assistant to the President since 2001. As Special Assistant, he provides campus leadership in matters of diversity and equity and serves as the implementation link between the Cabinet, the Council of Deans, and all commissions, councils, and offices involved in the equity system.

He serves on the President's Cabinet and Administrative Council and chairs the Equity Council and the Campus Assessment Working Group. He oversees the offices of Human Relations Programs, Organizational Effectiveness, Faculty and Staff Ombuds, and the Baltimore Incentive Awards Program. He serves as the Provost's liaison to students and student groups.

Before coming to the University of Maryland as Chief of Staff in 2000, Dr. Waters spent 12 years at the University of San Francisco, where he served as Assistant to the President for Planning and Diversity, University Ombudsman, and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs.

Dr. Waters received a Ph.D. in Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford and a Master's in Public Policy from Harvard. His Bachelor's degree is in Economics and American Studies from Eckerd College. His hobbies include singing and watching movies, sports, and The Simpsons.
